We made it to Hanoi a few days ago.(yesterday in fact)
Enjoyed our tramping through the villages and the mountains. Stayed at homestays along the way and had a great waterfall swim.
The first night we slept in a small town full of H'mong people. very persistant sales people who walk along you and expect you to buy something of them at the end. I was not going to fall for their stories. The first night we met this really interesting guy from Deventer (actually born in Delden, so perhaps Tessa knows him)in holland, who lives there and is a tour leader for Baobab travel from holland. The girls and us had a few laughs about some of his comments I will not repeat here...... His name is Eddy Verdriet.
Next day watched the soccer in the house we stayed. Anyway, took the car back to Sapa for another night stay. We spend some time in a cafe waiting for the bus to leave and we found out the owner to be Dutch. He knows my father from cycling. His name is Eddy Goselink and he has been living in Oldenzaal, the town where Lotus is born. He is a honnourable member of the OWC cycling club and has been setting out biketrips around Vietnam/Laos for the last few years.

We are in Hanoi and of course too many shops. I actually like Hanoi very much, it is a real asian city with lots of unexpected shops and little alleys. Except for the scooters, they are everywhere trying to knock you of your feet!
Went to a waterpuppet show yesterday.
The heat is really intense after our time in the mountains of Sapa and Laos. 37degrees today!
We will be taking the sleeper train to Hoi an on the 15th.

Hallo Stephan,Natalie,Cloe en Lotus. Alles nog goed met jullie?Veel reizen met trein en bus over erg hobbelige wegen denk ik zo.Wat een ruig landschap daar bij jullie.Wat is Nederland dan mooi aangeharkt en elke vierkante meter is hier van iemand. Hanoi was erg mooi las ik. Veel ontbladering in de 60 er jaren daar door de Amerikanen. Met een paar weekjes komen jullie al weer deze kant op.Het gaat allemaal snel. Elke avond is hier voetbal op T.V. Holland verloor de eerste 2 wedstrijden tegen de Denen en Duitsland,Zondag moeten ze tegen Potugal met 2-0 winnen en de Duitsers moeten van de Denen winnen,dan gaan we door.Of dat allemaal lukt? Wat een enorme afstanden zijn dat in Zuid Oost Azie en wat een ruig landschap daar.Pa Blaauw en Hennie Bonnes zijn overleden .Zag veel vrienden van jou die vroegen wanneer komt Stephan hier? Zomerweer met zwemmen e.d. is hier nog niet . s-nachts plm. 7 graden en overdag plm. 18 graden.Waren met de Tourclub fietsen richting Ruhrgebied vorig weekend totaal 250 km. Zondag gehele dag koud met regen. Sliepen in heel grote boerderij nabij Borken. Vandaag overal vlaggen i.v.m. de vele geslaagden.Alles groeit en bloeit hier enorm. Met Oranje versiering valt het nog wel mee momenteel.Vandaag trouwt Olaf van tante Mini in Finland.Wij hoorden er niks van (ans en ik)Oom Theo was vorige week er al in Cochem. Hij vloog nog nooit en was erg zenuwachtig .Olaf trouwt met Finse van Turtkse komaf Het kan hem allemaal niet te snel gaan. Wij hebben wel een kaart gestuurd.Mini Nijhof en Jack hadden gisteren tennis toernooi en hyadden behoorlijk in het glaasje gekeken. Vinden jullie al dat reizen nog wel leuk? Met al die hitte e..d.? Nog veel plezier met jullie verdere trektocht.Wat mooi dat jullie Eddy Goselink tegen kwamen.Is een heel goeie tri-atleet. Groetjes Pa

ReplyDeleteHaven't been able to follow your journey for awhile as my computer was down. Had to get new tower, finally up and running again. Sounds like you're having a lovely time except for the bus trip!! We finally finished sowing last week, had to resow 560 acres of barley, didn't germinate properly. Probably a waste of time as we had 19 mls on top of it the next day, may bust the grain. Have to wait and see. Sent Chloe's birthday parcel last Thursday, so should be at Opa's when you get there. The wedding invite is in the parcel as well. Catch you all later. Love Nanna
